Drug possession is the most arrested offense in the country, even though drug arrests tear families apart and cause generations of trauma. And due to targeted policing and enforcement, it’s had a particularly ruthless impact on Black, Latinx, and Indigenous people.
Meanwhile, deaths from accidental overdose continue to rise with 94,000 of our friends and family members lost to overdose in 2020 alone. The drug was has done nothing to save lives and we cannot wait any longer for change. In fact, drug criminalization helps drives the overdose crisis.
Enough is enough. It’s time to end the drug war.
