Fight for Marijuana Justice: Help Us Pass the MORE Act

It’s been over a year since our historic victory when the U.S. House passed the MORE Act – the first time a chamber of Congress has ever approved a bill that would deschedule marijuana to end federal criminalization and repair the harms of prohibition.

Despite commitments from leaders that the House would pass it again, it hasn't moved to a floor vote yet. Let’s force them to deliver on their promise of marijuana justice: urge your House Representative to support swift passage of the MORE Act.

I urge you to support and ensure swift passage of the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act (H.R. 3617) in the House as soon as possible.

In December 2020, the House passed the MORE Act becoming the first Congressional chamber to vote favorably for a bill that would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act list of drug schedules. Since then, the bill was reintroduced in a new Congress, advanced in the House Judiciary Committee, and has secured more than 100 cosponsors and commitments from leaders that the House would pass it again, but it hasn’t moved to a floor vote yet.

Passage of the MORE Act is long overdue. An overwhelming 91% of U.S. adults say that marijuana should be legal for recreational or medical use. Despite the popularity of marijuana across the country, there are hundreds of thousands of marijuana arrests in the U.S. every year.

The MORE Act has the comprehensive reforms we urgently need for a new path forward. It would end the federal criminalization of marijuana and align the public’s view with federal law, while allowing individual states to decide the course they want to take on marijuana. It would declassify marijuana as a controlled substance under federal law, expunge marijuana convictions, and reduce marijuana sentences. It would use marijuana tax revenue to fund services in communities adversely impacted by drug prohibition and to build up programming to support a more diverse and inclusive legal marketplace. And it would allow banking services for marijuana businesses with fair opportunities for small businesses in the most harmed communities.

It’s beyond time for federal marijuana reform. Please do everything you can to support the swift passage of the MORE Act in the House as soon as possible. Thank you.
