After months of pressure from advocates like you, the MORE Act will be scheduled for a House floor vote this week!

The MORE Act is the only bill in Congress that will decriminalize marijuana to end federal marijuana prohibition with the comprehensive reforms needed to repair the damage it’s done to communities and ensure an equitable path forward rooted and racial and social justice.

For over half a century, marijuana prohibition has been the cornerstone of the cruel and inhumane drug war and disproportionately harmed Black, Latinx, Indigenous and low-income communities. Enough is enough.

I urge you to vote YES on the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment & Expungement (MORE) Act (H.R. 3617) when it goes to the House floor.  Passage of the MORE Act is long overdue. An overwhelming 91% of U.S. adults say that marijuana should be legal for recreational or medical use. Despite the popularity of marijuana across the country, there are hundreds of thousands of marijuana arrests in the U.S. every year.

The MORE Act has the comprehensive reforms we urgently need for a new path forward. It would end the federal criminalization of marijuana and align the public’s view with federal law, while allowing individual states to decide the course they want to take on marijuana. It would declassify marijuana as a controlled substance under federal law, expunge marijuana convictions, and reduce marijuana sentences. It would use marijuana tax revenue to fund services in communities adversely impacted by drug prohibition and to build up programming to support a more diverse and inclusive legal marketplace. And it would allow banking services for marijuana businesses with fair opportunities for small businesses in the most harmed communities.

In December 2020, the House passed the MORE Act becoming the first Congressional chamber to vote favorably for a bill that would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act list of drug schedules. Since then, the bill has secured more than 100 cosponsors.

It’s beyond time for federal marijuana reform. Please vote YES on the MORE Act when it goes to the floor. Thank you.
