Congress: Stop Attempts to Criminalize Kratom
Last week, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb issued an ominous statement on kratom, a medicinal plant used for centuries in Southeast Asia and currently used by many in the U.S. to overcome addiction, chronic pain and other difficult-to-treat conditions.
We’ve seen this misguided panic about kratom before. Last year, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) tried to ban kratom and place it in Schedule I. After enormous public outcry from advocates like you and Members of Congress, we forced the DEA to back down. But that was just a temporary reprieve.
The FDA statement signals that the war on kratom is not going away. And the DEA could still ban it at any moment. Urge your Members of Congress to stop any attempt to criminalize kratom.
