Help Pass the CARERS Act!

The CARERS Act is the most important medical marijuana legislation to ever be considered in Congress. The CARERS Act would:

•    end federal medical marijuana prohibition
•    allow Veterans Affairs doctors to recommend marijuana to ailing veterans
•    completely legalize CBD strains of marijuana for medical treatment nationwide, and
•    help end the criminalization of patients and their families.

This bill is currently stuck in the Senate, where it’s awaiting a vote from the Senate Judiciary Committee. We need your help to move it forward!

What is the CARERS Circle?

DPA is offering a first-of-its-kind peer-advocacy campaign to advance the CARERS Act.

Key Senators in Iowa, Texas, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Colorado need to feel pressure from their constituents to support, move forward on – and vote in favor of – the CARERS Act. As a Circle Member, you will have the opportunity to create a personal page encouraging your network to take action, increasing the pressure, and sharing a personal story.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CARERS Act?

The CARERS Act (Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States Act, S. 683), would end the federal war on medical marijuana and affirm the right of states to set their own medical marijuana policies, reschedule medical marijuana to Schedule II, enable access to CBD oil, allow banks to provide financial services to marijuana dispensaries, permit VA physicians to recommend medical marijuana to veterans, and eliminate barriers to medical marijuana research. What level of commitment is DPA seeking from Circle Members?

As you may know, passing legislation in Congress can be slow and requires long-term advocacy efforts. With dedicated allies like you, we can keep the pressure on to achieve victory.

That’s why we’re asking you to pledge a year of support when you join the CARERS Circle, and to commit to engaging personally in several online action opportunities to advance the CARERS Act and to ask your community to do the same. Setting up your page requires about 15-30 minutes, and we expect your commitment to be no more than 10 minutes per week throughout the 2016 calendar year (although there are always ways to do more if you want to engage more deeply).

What if I want to help but don’t live in any of the key states?

Even if you don't live in Iowa, Texas, Utah, Pennsylvania or Colorado where there are state-specific campaigns, you can still join the National Campaign and create a personal page to help pass the CARERS Act.

What can you expect from us?

Throughout the year, you can expect that DPA will communicate closely with Circle Members about legislative progress and all the ways that you can help us to create effective pressure.
